Absorbine Volunteer Days - Mary's Kitty Korner
Share
Honoring the values of our founders, Mary Ida and Wilbur Young, and continuing the Absorbine® legacy of compassion for horses and animals, in 2017 we’re sending all employees out to volunteer at an animal welfare charity of their choice. It wasn’t very hard to pitch this initiative – “You say we have to take a day off to go on an Absorbine® volunteer days adventure at an animal rescue? Well twist our arms!!” This time, we visit Mary’s Kitty Korner – it was incredible!
For this volunteer adventure, three Team Absorbine members worked a day at Mary’s Kitty Korner, an all-cat animal rescue! Located in Granby, CT, Mary’s is an all-volunteer organization and both the President, Lisa and Vice President Cathy work full-time jobs. Mary’s adopts around 400 kitties a year from the local Massachusetts & Connecticut areas. Mary’s Kitty Corner provides all cats and kittens with all necessary veterinary care including shots and spay/neutering prior to finding them new forever homes.

Once a year, Mary’s throws a huge gala fund raiser to fund the rescue. Last year, they raised over $16,000! The event is set up and run completely by volunteers. Our “talents” were put to use helping with the 9th Annual Cat’s Meow Gala, later that evening. First, we helped load up supplies and decorations.

Then, we got to stop by the Kitty Korner to visit some kitties! The cats have the run of an entire converted house where the rescue is located. The cats take turns running around and spending down time in their kennels. As you can see, they have a great environment with plenty of things to climb on, and friends to snuggle with.

Last stop was the Cambridge Brew House Pub to help get everything in place for the big “pawty.” This year, Mary’s collected a record-number of gift baskets for their silent auction. Including a few from Absorbine and The Missing Link, they collected over 337 items to auction off!
The love of kitties moved many people to donate items.

This is a yummy KITTIE KAKE!

Well, you have to get your kitties around town somehow, right?

Bill likes playing with boxes just as much as cats do.

The cat-lovin’ volunteers at the gala were really fun to work with! Selfie time!
In the end, everyone had a wonderful time, and a record $17,500 ($1,500 more than last year) was raised to help care for, house and re-home kitties!
