When treating equine wounds, choosing an effective solution that supports healing without relying on antibiotics is a growing priority for many horse owners and veterinarians. Silver Honey® Rapid Wound Repair Spray Gel combines the natural power of Manuka honey and MicroSilver BG®* to soothe, protect, and promote tissue regeneration—without the use of antibiotics. It’s proven to stop 99.9% of bacteria and promote fast healing. As wounds heal, it protects the skin microbiome so wounds can recover quickly and comfortably.
The team at Trackside Farm in Versailles, Kentucky, tested Silver Honey on a mare’s serious pectoral wound. With no suturing and no additional treatments used, the healing progress spoke for itself.
On April 12, 2022, the mare in the photos below was found after spending the night in her paddock with a large horizontal wound in the pectoral area. The wound involved the full thickness of the skin and pectoral muscles. No vital structures were compromised. Foreign bodies were not present within the wound. The farm veterinarian assessed the wound and deemed it not suitable for suturing.
The farm manager started the mare on Silver Honey Rapid Wound Repair Spray Gel twice a day as the sole treatment.
On April 23, 10 days after the initiation of therapy with Silver Honey Spray Gel, the mare was comfortable and tolerating the treatment very well. There were no signs of wound infection, and a healthy granulation bed filled the wound cavity.

On May 4, 21 days after treatment with Silver Honey Spray Gel, the mare continued to be comfortable with no signs of infection. The wound appeared almost filled with a healthy bed of granulation tissue and healthy wound margins.

On May 21, 39 days into the treatment with Silver Honey, the mare continued to tolerate the treatment very well and with no signs of infection. The farm manager changed from Silver Honey Rapid Wound Repair Spray Gel to Silver Honey® Rapid Wound Repair Ointment to apply on the wound margins that, by now, appeared almost fully closed.

The farm manager was impressed with the speed at which the wound healed with Silver Honey as the sole treatment. He also commented on how easy Silver Honey Spray Gel was to apply to such a large wound and how well the gel adhered to the tissues.
This case highlights the effectiveness of Silver Honey as a stand-alone solution for treating serious equine wounds. With a comfortable, infection-free recovery and a healing process that exceeded expectations, the team at Trackside Farm now trusts Silver Honey as a go-to product in their equine care routine.
