A grant from Absorbine® and A Home For Every Horse provides relief to a Florida rescue after hurricanes.

When natural disasters strike, the impacts ripple far beyond people. They devastate animals and the organizations that care for them. At Absorbine, we believe in supporting the equine community in times of crisis. That’s why we’ve partnered with A Home for Every Horse to launch the Disaster Relief for Rescues Grant. Through this initiative, certified 501(c)(3) horse rescues receive critical assistance in the aftermath of natural disasters.

The grant, provided by Absorbine through AHFEH, reflects a shared commitment to equine welfare, providing financial aid and critical resources that help rescues recover and sustain their lifesaving work. The program aims to ease the financial strain on rescue organizations, enabling them to focus on what matters most: rehabilitating and rehoming horses in need.

A Rescue in Need

In Lee, Madison County, Florida, My Shepherd’s Ranch has long served as a sanctuary for horses that might otherwise face slaughter or neglect. Their mission extends beyond rescue: horses at their facility are retrained for public service roles, including mounted law enforcement, search and rescue, disaster relief, and equine-assisted therapy.

But in 2024, disaster struck not once but three times. Within weeks of each other, Hurricanes Debbie, Helene, and Milton ripped through the facility, destroying their barn—a vital shelter that protected horses from Florida’s heat and storms and provided climate-controlled feed storage.

Without the barn, the rescue was forced to turn away much-needed donated feed, pause horse intake, and face the heartbreaking possibility of halting their work entirely. To make matters worse, insurance denied coverage for the barn’s destruction, leaving this small-town rescue without the resources to rebuild.

A Home for Every Horse

The Disaster Relief for Rescues Grant helped My Shepherd’s Ranch to help them rebuild their barn and strengthen their facilities against future storms.

“Bless you and everyone involved,” said My Shepherd’s Ranch President Elizabeth Suazo. “I’m going to go tell all of the horses the great news! This amount will absolutely rebuild the structure and make improvements for future storm mitigation. Thank you so much! We can rebuild and start rescuing and rehabilitating again.”

Why It Matters

Horses give so much to us—comfort, service, companionship, healing. When disasters put them at risk, supporting rescues like My Shepherd’s Ranch ensures these animals continue to have safe homes and second chances.

Absorbine is proud to play a small role in this story of resilience, compassion, and hope. Together with A Home for Every Horse, we’ll continue to stand by equine rescues and sanctuaries when they need it most.
