What Is Absorbine® Veterinary Liniment Gel?

The Absorbine® brand of liniments have been trusted by horsemen since 1892 to relieve muscle and joint pain and speed healing. One of the most popular, powerful and soothing liniments we make is Absorbine® Veterinary Liniment Gel, commonly called “Vet Gel” or even "green horse gel" by fans. It is made in the USA by W.F. Young, Inc., a family owned and operated Animal Care company since 1892. Read on to discover what is in it, how to apply it, and where to find it.

What it is:

Liniments are stimulants to the circulatory system that hasten and assist nature in returning fatigued muscles, joints and tendons back to normal. Absorbine® Veterinary Liniment Gel is the clear, green gel form of Absorbine® Veterinary Liniment. It is a powerful natural menthol and an herbal tincture suspended in an alcohol-gel base.

What it does:

Vet Gel produces a strong cooling, and then warming, effect for powerful temporary muscle and joint relief, including arthritis pain. The menthol in the product causes vasodilation, or the widening of blood vessels. This brings more blood flow to the area applied helping the body carry away waste materials, while the herbal ingredients are delivered to the tissues.

What is in it:

Absorbine® Veterinary Liniment Gel contains powerful natural menthol, plus our time-honored signature herbal tincture including echinacea, wormwood, calendula and thymol, which gives Vet Gel its distinctive smell. This gel form of Absorbine® Veterinary Liniment contains 4% menthol, where the liquid contains less menthol at 1.27%.

How to apply it:

Test on a small patch of skin first. Rub Absorbine® Gel in thoroughly around muscles and joints by hand. Rubbing helps activate. Apply three or more times a day. Avoid applying to sensitive skin areas. Wash hands with soap after applying to avoid contact with sensitive areas, because of the menthol's effect.
