A Winter Coat, A Clipping-Ready Makeover
Posted by Animal Care Team onA fully-grown winter coat thermoregulates the temperature of a horse's body. However, working horses with thick coats sweat faster and risk overheating, especially if they are not completely cooled down or dried off.
Body clipping prevents the dangers of illness and keeps your horse comfortable during exercise. Clipping a horse's coat in winter makes grooming easier, as matted hair from sweat, dirt, or dust, can pull on skin and dull clipper blades.
Before clipping a horse's coat, the coat needs to be clean. ShowSheen® 2-In-1 Shampoo & Conditioner cleans and conditions your horse's coat in one step, making it ready for clipping.
Sulfate and paraben-free, the pH-balanced formula conditions and deep cleans a horse's coat without stripping any natural oils. Invaluable for a quick tidy-up or bathing before clipping, ShowSheen 2-In-1 Shampoo & Conditioner is gentle enough for sensitive skin.
Enriched with pro-vitamins and silk proteins, ShowSheen 2-In-1 Shampoo & Conditioner:
- deep cleans removing dirt, oil, and sweat;
- eliminates the need for a separate conditioner;
- rejuvenates dull coats, nourishes skin, and strengthens manes and tails;
- rinses without leaving residue;
- allows clippers to glide through hair
ShowSheen 2-In-1 Shampoo & Conditioner, available in a convenient 20-ounce bottle, reduces clipper marks on a horse's skin and prevents blades from overheating or dulling too quickly.
Bathing a horse in winter requires more preparation than in warmer months. The water temperature should be at least 50 degrees Fahrenheit, preferably warmer. Bathing a horse in a warm, draft-free area is optimal.
To use ShowSheen 2-In-1 Shampoo & Conditioner, apply the product onto a wet sponge or pour one ounce into a gallon of warm water after wetting your horse's coat. Apply ShowSheen 2-In-1 Shampoo & Conditioner liberally to areas to be clipped, rinse the coat following with swipes with a sweat scraper, and allow the horse to dry completely.
To speed drying, use a cooler to wick away moisture, terry cloths, or microfleece towels, or plug in your blow dryer and use it in a warm setting. Blow dryers can be great for drying wet legs and preventing skin issues. Spray the coat with ShowSheen Hair Polish and Detangler after the horse is dry, and clippers glide across the coat like a hot knife through butter and do not overheat.
ShowSheen 2-In-1 Shampoo & Conditioner and Hair Polish and Detangler elevate your clipping routine in the winter and any time of the year.
