Absorbine Spotlight - Jitterbug

You love your horse, and we love that! Every month we’ll be asking one of our friends from social media to showcase their horses and share a few words in our Absorbine Spotlight!

This month, we’re excited to interview Jitterbug, 12 y.o. Percheron / Thoroughbred cross mare. Jitterbug has her own opinions which she shares via her column in Chronicle Of The Horse – she’s kind of a big deal! Read her articles here.

Absorbine: What is your human’s name, age and breed?

Jitterbug:  Garden Variety Adult Amateur. Older than she looks.

Absorbine: What do you do with your human? Show? Pleasure? Companion? Well-loved stall ornament?

Jitterbug: I attempt to take my Human eventing, but mostly she serves as a bumbling passenger.

Absorbine: What do you love most about your current human?

Jitterbug: I spend a lot of time focusing on my Human’s weaknesses, which is my job as her trainer, so this is a difficult question for me to answer. I suppose she is a dedicated, if slow, learner. No matter how many times I dump her on her head, she toddles back into the barn the next day.

Absorbine: Any fun horse care tips you’d like to share? Can include tricks or “barn hacks.”

Jitterbug: Too many to list. My favorite thing right now is dancing sideways when baths take too long and “accidentally” ending up on the hose. Whoops, guess you’ll have to turn me out now!

Absorbine: What Absorbine products do you like, and why did you start using them?

Jitterbug: I find Absorbine’s fly spray significantly less alarming than other brands. The Human doesn’t need to reapply it as often as other types, and the misty spray nozzle is way less offensive than others, which are kind of like ticklish assaults on my ankles. I also love the poultice wraps, especially after a hot summer day. They negate the need for the Human to remember to pick that itchy stuff off the next day and let’s face it, she’s a little forgetful for that.

Absorbine: What’s the funniest thing non-horse people ask you about horses?

Jitterbug: I don’t often deal with non-horsey folk; I have noticed that many of them are absurdly nervous about feeding me treats, and do not realize that the longer they take to do so, the taller I grow.

Absorbine: Name some people who’ve had a big impact on your horsemanship, or should we say “humanship?”

Jitterbug: In my case, this would be influencers on my human management. I always thought Ed the pony was a huge inspiration—he never let either size or age keep him from starting his human early, and starting him right. www.youtube.com/watch?v=aUaP0t5IUnM

Thanks for your time Jitterbug. The whole Absorbine crew loves your work and we’re really happy to have you as an official Absorbine Ambassador!
