Absorbine Team Member Spotlight: Eileen Shaw
Posted by Animal Care Team onOur team member Eileen Shaw has a sticker on her laptop that says "Heart, Horses, Hustle" and if there were three words we'd pick to describe her, those might just be them. Eileen is a lifelong equestrian and an integral part of Team Absorbine. We asked her a few of our "get to know ya" questions for this Absorbine Spotlight and as usual, she delivered!
Absorbine: What do you do with your horse?
Eileen: My horse Granby (aka "Party Crasher") is a 16-year-old Quarter Horse gelding that I've had for a few years, first leasing and then I was lucky enough to buy him in the summer of 2022! I ride primarily hunter/jumper, so we were working towards showing in the 2'3"-2'6" adult amateur hunters. Unfortunately, he sustained a stifle injury six months after I bought him and he was very recently cleared to be ridden again, so his rehab is all about taking it slow and building his strength. When we're not riding, he loves to be groomed and hand-grazed around the farm.
Absorbine: What Absorbine products do you like, and why did you start using them?
Eileen: As the years have gone on, I've used more and more to the point where they probably make up half my grooming box - even before I started working here! I use so many, but my ultimate favorite is probably ShowSheen Miracle Groom - it's just such a workhorse of a grooming spray and makes him really soft and shiny.
I started using Absorbine products circa 2007 as a kid at my first barn with the original ShowSheen to make the ponies sparkle for show days! Now, over 15 years later, I use a big variety of Absorbine products that fit so many purposes - from grooming, fly spray, wound care, hoof care and supplements - because they're high-quality and I know I can trust them.
Absorbine: Any fun horse care tips you’d like to share? Can include product tricks or “out of the box” uses.
Eileen: Those little microfiber mitts or towels that are typically used for detailing cars are amazing for knocking dust off of your horse and tack. I'll also spritz some fly spray on the glove and use it to wipe on my horse's face and ears - I feel like it works better than a regular dish towel.
Absorbine: What’s the funniest thing non-horse people ask you about horses?
Eileen: My fiancé is not a horse person, but he wants to learn, so I get a great amount of funny questions from him. Including but not limited to: "Can he even see with that thing on his face?" (Talking about a fly mask.) "Can he have a bite of this?" (Talking about his breakfast sandwich.) "Why don't you just say brown?!" (When I tell him about all the different variations of bay.)
Absorbine: What do you love most about your horse?
Eileen: What I love most about Granby is that he's uncompromising and demands a high standard from me, whether it comes to his snacks or how I ride to him a fence - but that he takes wonderful care of me in return, and I can trust him with my whole heart.
