Absorbine Body Wash Recipe
Absorbine Veterinary Liniment works wonders on the sore muscles and joints of your horse. It can help keep your horse’s hooves from getting a fungal or bacterial infection. But did you know that you can also make up an invigorating body wash to rinse away sweat and dirt? As you can see from the picture to the left, this is not a new application for AVL but it works as well today as it did in 1892.

Absorbine Body Wash Recipe

Mix in a pail:

4oz (1/2 cup) Absorbine Veterinary Liniment

8oz (1 cup) vinegar (optional)

24oz (3 cups) cool water

Apply with a sponge or cloth to the horse avoiding their face. This recipe will invigorate your horse and brace their skin after a sweaty workout or a long ride. It’s a cooling, soothing reward for your hard working horse!

Hey Aleasha, we’ve been answering this question for 120 years! It is really a veterinary product labeled for horses and dogs. That said, it’s usually applied by hand and is safe to touch as it does not contain steroids or DMSO ingredients. The active ingredient is Menthol from spearmint plants. We’ve had many many people write us about how they’ve used it over the years. Check out our Facebook page –

Thank you Sean, I applied it on my shoulder and neck today and I have to say it works great and helped with a headache I had. I also applied it to my dogs injured shoulder and he wasn’t limping as bad…I swear by it now.

Can humans use the gel for sore muscles. Guys at the gym say they use it. Is it safe?
