ShowSheen® Grooming Tips from Brad Barkemeyer - Absorbine

If there’s one thing you can be sure of when Brad Barkemeyer enters the show pen, it’s that the horse he’s riding is looking his very best. Brad spends a lot of time getting his horses groomed to perfection; he knows good presentation is a reflection of great horsemanship.

To help get the job done, the ShowSheen® line of grooming products is always within Brad’s reach. The brand has been his go-to since ever since he first began training horses, and remains his most trusted grooming aid. “Nothing works better than ShowSheen®,” he says. “It puts a nice luster on the hair and repels all the dust, plus it keeps manes and tails tangle-free.”

Brad thought he’d offer us a glimpse into his grooming routine for show-pen ready manes, coats, and tails. Here are a few helpful grooming tips he has for best grooming practices:

“For the best turned out horse possible, I start with a good bath to clean and condition the coat, mane, and tail. ShowSheen® 2-in-1 Shampoo & Conditioner is ideal for lifting dirt and grime while deep conditioning the hair.”

“If it’s too cold for a full bath, or if you’re in a hurry, ShowSheen® Miracle Groom® is the next best thing. Spray the coat, mane, and tail and work it through with a body brush.”

“Next, apply a light coating of ShowSheen® Original Hair Polish and Detangler for shine. When it comes to detangling the mane and tail, spray the hair thoroughly and use a stiff bristled hair brush to gently comb through, working your way from the bottom on up and making sure you’re getting all the hair underneath. Be very careful not to break the hairs.”

“Once everything is tangle-free, finish with a light mist of ShowSheen® Finishing Mist for a final luster.”

“If you’re heading into the show pen, add a touch of ShowSheen® Detangler Gel around the muzzle and eyes to show off that face and really stand out. The judge will always notice a little shine, and a lot of hard work.”

No doubt, the hard work pays off when it comes to good grooming. A little ShowSheen® always makes the job easier, though! Thanks for the grooming tips Brad!
